Training Overboard Trap

We have all done it. We find the BEST training on the Internet and then
we spend days and weeks going over this training. And of course, we need
to go over it again & again & again, because we need to have it
perfected before we can go out into the field and put it to use, right?

Then, right before we are ready to put all this new-found knowledge into use, we come across some other training that is even BETTER and the trainer is even MORE well-known, and we know that this is exactly what we have been looking for. So why take action now? Let’s just wait and learn this new amazing, awesome, off the chart training that we have found.

Of course it comes with a price, because what they are really promoting is their latest lead generation system or their boxed CD set, or their seminars, etc.

So you buy all their stuff and all of the sudden it seems boring. Turns out is the same old same old.
So what do you do? You procrastinate until you come across that the next “God sent, life-changing” training system.

Yes! Old Man Procrastination! The opposite of decision. One of the most common causes of failure. The time killer that tells you to wait until the “time is just right”.

Well guess what? The time will NEVER be just right. Yes, the right training is priceless,
it’s invaluable and it is much needed in this profession. But if you have been in this industry for quite some time, I can guarantee that you have enough “training” under your belt to GO! RUN WITH IT! Or as Nike would say, JUST DO IT!

If you find all your time is being spent on picking up a new book instead of picking up
the phone, you have fallen into the “Training Overboard Trap.” Don’t TOT out!

If you find yourself spending all your time listening to the latest training audios instead of listening to your prospects, you are a TOT out!

If you find yourself spending all your time watching the latest videos instead of watching your team grow, you are a TOT out!

If you find yourself talking to everyone about the new “training” that you just “discovered” rather than talking to prospects about your business, you are a TOT out!

How do you stop the cycle? Well it seems simple. Just take action. Take all the stuff you have learned and implement it, right!? Sounds easy?

Well unfortunately it’s not. If it were, then you, and everyone on your team would be at the top of the pay plan. But you can take steps to improve. You can follow the 80/20 rule. You know, 20% training and 80% action.

So if you only have two hours a day to devote to business, then that would mean you spend 40 minutes on some type of training and one hour 20 minutes taking action.Before long, you can cut back to the 90/10 rule. Yep, 2 hours equals 20 minutes training and 1 hour 40 minutes action.

I actually wouldn’t recommend going lower than the 90/10 rule because I am a true believer that leaders NEVER stop learning. No matter where you
stand, you should always make time to keep learning, growing and improving.

The important thing is that you make a DECISION. As Napoleon Hill states,
“definiteness of decision ALWAYS requires courage, sometimes very great
courage.”

And I can promise you one thing, until you make a decision, you will find yourself in the same position next week, next month, next year, and on and on until it’s too late and the decision is not yours anymore.

So today, TAKE ACTION! Pick up the phone and call the person that asked about your business. Email, text, call those people that you know can use what you have. GO OUT- talk to at least two people today about your business. Tell your story. Build relationships, build friendships.

You do this every day, then before you know it, you won’t even have time for the latest “training.”
